In Family 2 please note that there are many different spellings of the “ack” sound, each color
represents a different spelling and/or some other peculiarity – such as the silent “h” in khaki.
Again, here is an example of a word that has no apparent explanation why it is spelled so oddly.
Only by creating a mnemonic device and then consigning it to memory can the some words be
spelled correctly time and again.

 At What Pace Should a Class Be Expected to Finish Reading this Book?

The amount of time it takes to read this book will vary from class to class depending on the age and
aptitude of the students and the focus the teacher places on vocabulary, let alone spelling. Using
this book primarily as a reader, most first grade classes should be able to read two stories per day,
thus be finish with it within one school year. However, to get full value, parents and principals may
want their charges to use it over and over again, not only to develop reading skill more fully, but
