Introduction
The centerpiece of our Totally Literate
Program is The Red Well-Read Reader.
The beauty of this book, so to speak, is that
it benefits all students according to their
age and ability. On one hand, fast learners
never become bored, for they are forever
struggling to grasp meanings which are in
part slightly over their heads; nonetheless,
on the other hand slower learners never feel
overwhelmed because the level of difficulty
in decoding (i.e. reading irrespective of
comprehension) remains simple throughout
the book. Typically only one phoneme, or
sound, is focused on per story.
