Being quarantined, mostly stuck inside our homes.
It has made me stressed and anxious. I am nervous
about the disease affecting me and my family and also
for the entire world. Thousands of people are dying every
day. I am nervous about what this is doing to the world.
Everything has changed. We can’t do the things that we used
to do.
I can’t believe I am saying this, but I even miss campus and
my friends and teachers. And i have no idea when will this end. The
uncertainty is so scary. My parents listen to the news, and I just want to
shut it all out, wishing we could go back to the way things were.
I am fortunate. When my younger sister gets on my nerves, i can escape
to my room. When I am bored or nervous, I can video call my friends
Face to face. There’s TV and movies and all the internet to amuse me all hours
of the day and night. And my cooking experiments are also going on.
Before the pandemic, I had often heard adults say that young people would
lose the ability to connect in person with others due to our growing dependence on
technology and social media. However, this stay at home experience has proven to
me that our elders worry is unnecessary. Because isolation isn’t in human nature and no
advancement in technology could replace our need to meet in person, especially when it
comes be learning. Isolated people suffer a lot during their isolation period for the sake of
others.
Google Classroom and others university online meets have made my online learning easier and
I’m grateful for the technology that allows me to stay connected with friends. But seeing my teachers
through a screen makes me realize how much I appreciated the classroom.
In the meantime, we can find creative ways to stay connected and continue to do what we love. If there
is anything that the pandemic made me realize, it’s how connected we all are. At first the infamous
corona virus seemed to be a problem in China, which is worlds away. But slowly it steadily made
way through various countries. Watching the global community come together gives me hope, that
in the future we can use this cooperation to combat climate change. As COVID-19 continues to
creep its way into each of our communities and impact the way we live and communicate, I
find solace in the fact that we face what comes next together, as humanity.
