Justin Baldwin, His Vineyards, Wines and Philosophy
The Beginning:
Justin Baldwin purchased 160 acres in Paso Robles in
1981, with the aim to make wines that belong
amongst the finest in the world. His main focus at
the time was to create Bordoux style blends.
The lime rich soil in Paso Robles allowed him to
grow grapes with intense flavor and great structure.
Important Mile Stones:
Year 1986: Justin produces his first Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonay wines, those are however
available to friends and family at first. The first official bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with the JUSTIN label
is released.
Year 1987: The first Vintage of Justin Reserve is released, it’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon,
Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The blend was later named ISOSCELES.
Year 2000: Wine Spectator names the 1997 ISOSCELES the 6 best wine in the world in their
th
annual wine ranking of the top 100 wines.
Their Philosophy:
At JUSTIN®, we combine traditional Old World methods—like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in
French oak—with New World technology. For example: the “Air Knife,” an ingenious process invented
by our winemakers, boosts grape quality and efficiency.
Once the grapes are harvested, our winemakers-some of the best in the business-gather to sort, select,
age, taste, blend and decide what goes into every bottle.
