The layout to the kitchen Garden was conceived by His Majesty with the advice from Lady Salisbury.
In subsequent years the planting scheme has been revised.
The garden is centred with an ornate two-tier pedestal water feature set in a lily pond, with the garden layout radiating
outwards .
Over time the gradual building up of the moss has changed the stylised italian fountain into a more organic form.
Birds and insects drink from the ever present water source, that through its silence replenishes all that are refreshed by it.
The wide central avenue has the semblance of a french chateau grand design and links north and south aspects of the garden.
The kitchen Garden is laid out as a decorative potager which may have been influenced by Rosemary Verey’s own and
renowned potager at Barnsley House in Gloucestershire.
The patterns are based on the intricate seventeenth century designs and arrangement of herbs, fruits and flowers, producing a
garden of delights.
