The Cloak of Human Condition Alter Realism

Adaptation of Monument to Pope Alexander VIII by Gian Lorenzo Bernini 1672 - 1678 Basilica, Rome.

This composition explores the salient narrative focus of Bernini's expression in the transient earthly existence symbolically
expressed in the usage of the Clepsydra or water clock { Greeks called their water clock ‘Klepsydra’ - ‘water thief’} and
the relationship of the incarnate soul to the Divine Absolute.
In this Alter- Realist composition, Bernini's creation of human drama is made.

The cloak that is draped over the skeleton represents a dimensionless space as the incarnate soul is intrinsically spirit and
                           therefore beyond spacetime.

In place of the foreboding ‘Door of Death’ in Bernini’s creation ,this composition replaces it with mystical light of the Holy
Spirit is the beckoning invitation to the return of the soul.

The canopy of heaven is a draft preparatory piece { The Picture Gallery ,Vatican Museum}. Owing to its draft form of loose
painting the work lends its self to a modern depiction of painting style.

The colouration of the picture space gravitates from the earth colours of green and brown ,ascending towards light blue of
                           the surrounding spiritual realm.
