‘The Tree of Realisation of Good and Evil’ - Alter Realism

The composition relates the notion of the tree of knowledge and its symbolism and the Divine gift of freewill to
Humankind.
The figure of Christ is referenced from the facade of St Peters Basilica.
Superimposed on the cross is the impression of an ornamental tree within the Vatican Gardens. The tree is also
used as the Tree of Knowledge within the sphere of creation, with the connective association of cross and tree
relating to the Christ’s ministry and cosmic mission.
Visitors within the Pinecone Courtyard whilst viewing the Arnaldo Pomodoro 1990 sculpture
‘Sphere within a Sphere’ were included within this narrative. The arrangement and placement of individuals
comments on humanity’s free choice to reject, to be distracted or make spiritual judgements of the created
world.
