‘Stewardship of the Keys’ - Alter Realism
The narrative of ‘The Consignment of the Keys’ painted by Pietro Perugino depicts the episode cited in the
Gospel of Matthew {16:18-19}which is in this composition, partly referenced by usage of the Keys.
The concept of the Perugino painting uses a pictorial device known as continuous narrative wherein the
picture space depicts a number of time events as being parallel and enacted simultaneously.
This time-space phenomena can be viewed in quantum principles whereby the order of time events are not
linear. This Alter Realist composition further explores this stance and detaches the narrative from any past
period. In doing this, the composition has a non-locational and timeless aspect which can be seen as; all
events being constant and effective in quantum reality.
The sections of arms are from the Gregorian Etruscan Museum. Both are made of bronze and are from the
Imperial Age {1st -2nd C .AD} the righthand arm comes from a shipyard of Port Civitavecchia.
The painting can be seen as an open invitation to all, and the keys are a persons decision to accept.
