Spring brings the sense and experience of vibrant fresh colours, intense light and dramatic contrasts.
                                                                      The scene is painted from a vantage point on the Duke’s Walk.  This walk was designed by Elizabeth
                                                                      when the new gardens were being created in the early 1800’s and then known as the Ladies Garden.
                                                                      Its route sets out from the castle grounds and skirts the side of Blackberry Hill, passing the Spring and
                                                                      Hermit Gardens being set in an amphitheatre which is a geological feature shaped by past glaciers.
                                                                      In the spring the terraced slopes are carpeted with Primroses and Daffodils, mixed with petals shed
                                                                      from the surrounding canopy of  blossom bearing trees. A truly transient period of the year.
