Alter Realism -Contemporary Still Life with Venus
The composition is formulated by the process subtraction thereby accentuating key aspects that then
create a new narrative of relationships. This form of approach focuses and hence brings out what would
be lost or diminished in the overall setting , and initial view. The painting or picture plane is sub-divided through
inter-weaving of applied colour fields that provide a sense of various depths of field each dissolving into the other
through adjacent boundaries or superposition of layers. The narrative in terms of Alter Realism explores the
playful or poetic animated interpretation of the statures of Apollo and Venus .
Here Apollo offers an invitation of mystery to Venus . Apollo, originally Greek and adopted by the Roman
Republic in 432 BC. Apollo was considered the God of Music, light and beauty, associated with Fortune-teller
and prophecies of seers. Venus as a minor goddess of flowers and cultivated gardens Venus was officially
established in Rome in about 217BC as a redefined form of Astarte.
This is emphasised by the dissolving clock, the female figure holds and plays with time, the inner space of the
sphere has the Universe with both Sun, Moon and stars.
The flowers act as the linkage or bridge between them. Venus was originally the Goddess of flowers.
