At the time the late owner of the Parc Floral at Apremont, Gilles de Brissac,
Generously permitted me to paint the various gardens within the park, which was started
in 1971 by landscaping nearby meadows.
Gilles had come to appreciate the English garden design. He had set a part of the park over
as ‘Les Jardin Anglaise’. Wherein he allowed the planting to be a particular English mix.
This was set adjacent to the Wisteria walk which consisted of a long pergola run with
Clematis and Climbing Roses.
The parc Floral seriesof paintings concentrates on this relationship of a French anglophile
gardener and his English garden on his French soil.
