Top 10 Things we will miss about 10 Sherwood Farm Road
1. Location, location, location – 5-10 minutes to everything! I-95 & the Merritt; Grocery stores; Farmers Markets;
FTC; Town Green; Fairfield libraries, beaches & the incredible restaurants. For trips to New York, the short drive to
the train station has been especially important. After a long day at work in Manhattan or dinner in the City, a quick
drive back makes all the difference!
2. Floor Plan - When we designed the floor plan, we took what we felt were the best features from two Center Hall
Colonials we lived in (one from 1908 & one from the 80s). We made sure we had a large, welcoming foyer & lots of
windows like the older home. The staircase is a gentle “7 by 11” from an earlier era, with 7” risers & 11” treads. We
also built a large, modern kitchen with an openness that suits more modern life. We believe we succeeded as the F
L O W is awesome…for all ages! The feeling throughout is light, bright, & cheerful with spaces for a little F-U-N built
in!
3. Kitchen - This kitchen has hosted cooking classes, family meals & many dinner parties with the 9-foot seamless
island. The pantry has piano hinges with shelves that swing out for easy access & view. The six-burner cooktop
often has most of the burners in use for cooking projects. Crazy as it may sound, doing the dishes is a joy here since
the view of the nature in the backyard is so enjoyable!
4. Family room – We love sitting in this space! The 19-foot ceiling & the dry stacked fireplace are warm & welcom-
ing all year round but especially during the cold months. It is a true work of art with a raised hearth that creates a
spectacular draft for the fire!
5. The Yard –We will miss looking out into the garden and appreciating both the nature and the space of the
four-season professionally designed gardens. When our children were young, we had a very large playset where
we could watch the kids playing from the kitchen window. We spent hours tossing a frisbee to our black lab – labs
never want to stop playing!
6. Foyer – One of many reasons we love it. Imagine coming home on your 50th birthday. As you are hanging up
your coat, more than 70 people pour into the foyer out of hiding places in the kitchen, dining room & upstairs.
Crowded? Yes. The surprise greeting truly that as everyone shouted “Surprise…Happy Birthday!” It’s one of our
best memories.
7. Neighbors – There aren’t enough words. We have been here for 22 years for a reason! Maybe it’s a product of
living on a cul-de-sac, but everyone on the street is wonderful. We share resources, be it a dog sitter, plumber,
gardener, electrician, painter… As the kids got older, they became the babysitters for the younger generation in the
neighborhood. The beauty is that there are all ages on Sherwood Farm Road – from infants to seniors!
8. Master Bedroom area – It's spacious, well laid out, & we’ve had multiple configurations over the years. The
extra room off the sleeping area can play many roles. It's kind of like Mom & Dad having their own wing with all the
space!
9. Driveway – It may sound funny to say that we love our driveway, but we do! The turnaround in front makes
getting groceries to the kitchen effortless & provides tons of space for company to park. The flat area by the garage
is ideal for basketball or “chalk talk”. The access to the three-car garage is awesome during all weather. The conve-
nience has left us feeling a little spoiled!
10. Lower level – First, the forty-six-foot storage area gives us enough room for almost everything we need to store
out of sight, ranging from Christmas decorations to a gift-wrapping table. Most important, the layout of the living
area is flexible & practical in many ways. It has accommodated entire families who had their own level and full
bathroom. There is plenty of room for games, crafts, watching TV, all while looking out at the nature in the back
yard and gazing at the birds. It is such a bright space.
