Though the boundaries of Southport, which has about 4,300 residents living in roughly three square
miles, are somewhat subjective, it is most closely identified with its serene harbor and its small vil-
lage center. Here are the top ten reasons we love Southport:

1) Charm & Character – The coastal enclave of Southport, Conn., is part of the town of Fairfield,
but its identity is very much its own. On the Register of Historic Places since 1971, the little village
of Southport belongs to an older, gentler time: stunning Georgian, Victorian and Federal mansions,
once home to sea captains, line shady streets still paved with their original blue slate walks and
cobblestones. The genuinely charming town center holds a cafe, pharmacy, antiques stores,
galleries, post office and grocery, worthy of a Rockwell painting.

2) Walkability – Being a coastal hamlet, Southport has its own post office, fire department, library,
& village center all within close-proximity to each other on a small geographical footprint.

3) Top Rated Restaurants – Artisan & Paci, just a couple of restaurants in Southport, come with
many accolades. Artisan just recently won Wine Spectator’s 2019 “Best in the World For Wine”
award. Here’s what Zagat has to say about Paci: “Southport is lucky” to have this “sophisticated”
brick-walled Italian “tucked away” in a former freight depot at the train station where “delicious”
dishes delivered via “top-notch service and presentation.”

4) Public Schools – Three top schools serving Southport are Mill Hill Elementary, Roger Ludlowe
Middle School, and Ludlowe High. There are also nursery schools and private school options nearby.

5) Pequot Yacht Club – A member’s only club established in 1920, this sailing club continues to
thrive today with members who are active cruisers and racers in the sport at regional, national, and
international levels.

6) Ye Yard Yacht – Located on Harbor Road, Ye Yard Yacht is one of two marinas in the Town
Fairfield. Ye Yard Yacht accommodates 60 small boats to a maximum of 14’ and provides boat launch
services for residents and access to moorings in Southport Harbor. Additionally, 20 kayak racks are
available.

7) Southport Beach - About 2.5 acres in size, Southport Beach is a tiny, quiet beach property
that includes bathroom facilities and a concession stand that sells food during the beach season.
Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. Southport Beach is free and open to the public,
however from Memorial Day Saturday to Labor Day only residents with a beach sticker are permitted
to park in the lot. There are no daily fees.

8) Accessibility to NYC – Located on Station Street the south bound line is located 49 miles from
NYC. Passengers can travel from Southport to NYC in just over an hour.

9) Culture – Southport is host to many annual events including art shows, garden tours, and the
Blessing of the Fleet and Street Parade. The Blessing of the Fleet and Street Parade is a community
event sponsored by many local businesses. This event is considered a rite of springtime in
Southport Village on Saturday and features two parades -- one by land and one by sea.

10) Pequot Library – Pequot library is a guidepost to Fairfield, Southport Village, and beyond, pro-
viding professional library services and vibrant and diverse programming for all ages. One of the
major events hosted by the library is their annual summer book sale—one of the largest in New En-
gland with over 100,000 books, plus CDs, DVDs, records, and unique Specials. Admission is free and
open to the public. Proceeds directly fund Pequot Library’s annual educational programs, events,
and services.
