THE STORY
OF BRIDGEPORT The most populous city in Connecticut,
Bridgeport, is a bustling port city
located at the mouth of the Pequonnock
River on Long Island Sound. The
community has seen a remarkable
transformation throughout the years,
with the extensive redevelopment
efforts taking place in its downtown
and other neighborhoods. In addition
to these transformations, Bridgeport is
home to a thriving cultural scene. The
city boasts three museums, several
colleges, including the University of
Bridgeport and Housatonic Community
College, as well as the state's only zoo.
Celebrated as one of the top 5 booming
cities across the country on the Today
Show in 2023, Bridgeport is part of a
metropolitan area that is home to
several major corporations and
financial institutions. As a vibrant hub,
Bridgeport offers great transportation
access to New England and New York’s
economic, sports, and cultural
opportunities via Metro-North, I-95,
the Merritt Parkway, and the Port
Jefferson Ferry, serving Long Island.
Living up to its official nickname of
“Park City,” Bridgeport is home to 35
public parks covering over 1,300 acres
of abundant green space. The luscious
greens fill the town with pocket parks
scattered throughout neighborhoods.
In addition to these lovely parks,
Bridgeport hosts seaside gems with
easy access by ferry, adding to the
plethora of travel options available.
