INTERVIEW WITH THE
HOMEOWNER
What made you fall in love with this home?
That old cliché—location, location, location! We were so excited to have a familiar
neighborhood feeling but with incredible walkability to shops, entertainment, restaurants,
the train station, and the beach! Todd was initially working in Connecticut but when his
career took him to New York, the adjustment was made easy by his ability to walk two
blocks and hop on the train for his daily commute. We joked about not having to leave
town for holiday weekends, with all the sorts of special adventures we’d normally travel to
find available to us in our own neighborhood: walking trails, bike paths, local flora and
fauna, and town events like parades and fireworks. Our car has ridiculously low mileage,
which has been wonderful. At the same time, practical necessities like shops and services
(Town Hall, restaurants, food shopping, doctors, vets, the Fairfield Town Library) are all
also within walking distance.
The house itself was classically handsome, and had generous storage for our various
hobbies and collections. Our favorite room(s) are the back kitchen/family room, open to
one other and to the backyard patio. We found this a perfect place to spend time as a
family while everyone can still “do their own thing.”
Please describe the renovation process
We were able to add several things that made the house more our own, and I hope the new
owners will do the same! In our case, we upgraded the kitchen and the main bathroom,
added the skylight in the family room, and built the patio so the yard is truly an extension
of the house.
Will you miss the neighbor/neighbors?
This has always been a friendly street, with neighbors ready to chat. The fact that it’s a cul
de sac and not a through street means much less traffic, so kids have a safer environment
in which to play and ride their bikes and scooters, and the adults can enjoy their front and
backyards without lots of passing trucks and cars. The immediate neighborhood feels
private despite its central location.
