TOP 10 THINGS WE WILL MISS ABOUT 31 TUCKAHOE ROAD
1. THE LIGHT – with so many windows and such privacy you are always
surrounded with light – even on cloudy days.
2. THE PRIVACY – we walked the lot for almost a year before we decided on the
house location. There is complete privacy from the street now that the trees in front
are mature and the house is shielded from the houses on either side as well.
3. THE LOCATION – 31 Tuckahoe has all the value and advantages of a home in bucolic
Easton, yet it's wonderfully close to everything you need in Fairfield or Westport.
4. THE NEIGHBORHOOD – This deed-restricted neighborhood consists entirely of owner-
designed 4000+ sf custom homes. It's friendly, walkable and the neighbors are terrific. It's a
happy thing to see the turnover from older “empty nesters” to younger families with children.
5. THE OPEN FLOOR PLAN - Each room flows into another and it never feels as if you are
in a closed space. The house is perfect for entertaining – we actually had 100 people in
the main floor of the house for a sit-down dinner for our daughter’s wedding.
6. THE DECK AND THE VIEW – The back of the house looks onto the conservation land
for the Easton Reservoir and on winter days, you can see the old Easton Reservoir Dam.
The original deck was recently replaced with a new, identical design but constructed of
maintenance-free composite materials. We have enjoyed this oversized 600 sq. ft. space
and have spent many spring, summer and fall days/ evenings outside enjoying the view
-- sharing our space with friends and neighbors. The large table, fire pit and a 16-foot
retractable awning allow us to entertain graciously.
7. THE LANDSCAPING – Over the years we have replanted the CT forest that was
removed for construction and filled in with oak and mountain laurel evergreens
(rhododendrons, azaleas, arborvitae and white pines) to give us complete privacy.
We have added deciduous specimens (the columnar beeches at the top of the road,
dogwoods, cherry trees, a gum trees, Kusa dogwoods, Japanese and variegated
maples) to provide a seasonal landscape and complemented this with over 45
varieties of Hosta for ground cover.
8. THE SUITES – Each of the 3-family/guest bedrooms is a separate suite with private
attached bath, ensuring family members and guests have their own space. The two
suites in the central area second floor also share a spacious room that can be used for
a study, playroom or an additional guest bedroom.
9. THE FINISHED LOWER LEVEL – We finished almost 1,500 square feet of the
basement to suit our particular needs. We collect and enjoy fine wine and stored it in
the climate controlled 500-bottle wine cellar. We regularly used the exercise room and
hot tub; but because of the full bath and exterior door, this suite of rooms could also be
configured as separate and lovely living space for an in-law, an older child or an au-pair.
Our younger guests, who need a separate space to play video games, watch a movie or
just be away from the adults often used the Media Room.
10. THE CRAFT ROOMS AND WORKSHOP – There is both an extensive woodworking space
and an adjoining semi-finished craft and office set of rooms, allowing each of us to create in
our own spaces. I ran an artisan-style business from this space, making and selling a variety of
hand-made soaps and fabric products from my back room and office.
