THE HOMEOWNERS

What are some of your favorite features of the house and property since you are the
original owners who personally and custom built this home?

We used subcontractors who had worked with our firm for years and who were excited to display
their skills and ensure the highest quality work on this personal project for us. I cannot think of a
detail that was scrimped on including the many archways, barrel ceilings, tray ceilings, solid doors,
window trim, baseboards, heated garage, heated bathroom floors, 52’ long pool with pergola,
generator, 1,000 gallon buried propane tank, detailed stonework, and more. And, with Jack
Franzen as the architect, the design and floorplans were thought through to the smallest detail.

Tell me why you decided to install GeoThermal Heating & Cooling for the home's
HVAC system?
We had a clean slate to work with in building a new house, so it gave us the opportunity to
consciously adopt some green initiatives like geothermal, composting, and gardening (I even
cultivated and sold shiitake mushrooms). Geothermal meant no dirty oil burning fire in our
basement and the most natural way to both heat and cool a home with a tried and true technology.

Tell me what it's like to live in this neighborhood, and Weston as a whole?

We love our neighbors! We take care of each other with package pickups, babysitting, etc. We look
out for each other. We bought a bench where we can all congregate and wait for the school bus. In
terms of the town, the schools are amazing, and all on the same campus, which is unique among
surrounding towns.
We love Lachat Town Farm - this community center is the heart of the town and a huge asset to
social life. They have community gardens, farm animals, large evening farmers markets with
entertainment, cooking classes, gardening glasses, children's nature classes and summer programs.
They also have an event space and recently Tony award winner Renee Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton
starring role) gave an intimate concert. Local volunteer agencies include the Fire Dept and EMS. It
is so popular that there is currently a waiting list to get on the department. Bisceglie pond,
swimming pond with lifeguard and playground, free to the town. Westport beach stickers can also
be purchased at a discount for Weston residents. Devils Den and Troutbrook...these are 2 well
known nature preserves. People travel from long distances for their superb hiking. Devils Den is the
Nature Conservancy's largest preserve in CT. We just can't overestimate what a vibrant and unique
place it is.

Why are you moving?

We will miss the amazing lifestyle this property offers...but it is time to pass it on to a family who
will appreciate it as much as we have, and will benefit from all that Weston and this wonderful
neighborhood has to offer. It is important for us to be closer to our grown children and
grandchildren, so it is time to move forward.
