INTERVIEW WITH
THE HOMEOWNER
Q: What made you fall in love with this home?
A: As you walk down the alluring two way East 72 nd street, there is a feeling of grandeur as the long awning of the Fontaine
reaches out to meet you. The Fontaine, being the only building on the block tucked away from the street, has a mystic that
pulls you in right from the sidewalk. Down the long walkway through the sliding glass doors of the newly renovated lobby, a
friendly face will always greet you. The team of doorman at this building is unparallel. They have become family to us and I
simply cannot say enough good things about them. The apartment “5D” is spacious and versatile. It is consumed with an old
New York feeling as you look out the windows to a combination view of open sky above, pre-war apartments below and high
rises in the background. A view that is not spoiled by noise, with the double pane soundproof windows 5D is a great retreat
from the Manhattan hustle & bustle.
Q: Please describe the renovation process (if you renovated of course).
A: They very first weekend I owned the apartment, my then boyfriend and I painstakingly removed the popcorn ceiling
throughout the entire apartment. It was tedious, but my now husband and I look back and smile at the memory. In
November of 2019 we renovated our kitchen. The space is now my absolute favorite kitchen, the functionality of it I have
not found in any other kitchen, even in the largest of houses. It is classic timeless and elegant. It pains me to leave it. I
cherish the Thanksgivings we have hosted here.
Q: Why are you moving?
A: I bought this property as a single person. It has grown with me, and has morphed into a family home. Our two little boys
are our world now, so when my husband’s job transferred him outside of the city, we made the tough decision to take our
family closer to his job.
Q: What will you miss the most about the neighborhood/neighbors?
A: The Upper East side is such a fabulous area of Manhattan, specifically 72 nd street. Being able to exit the Q train and
retreat from the hustle and bustle of Midtown, down the block to a neighborhood feeling has always been something
I loved. The weekends specifically have such a great energy. A calm buzz of residents and visitors enjoying quality time
with friends and family. I will miss it to the core of my being. When I was single it was the best bar scene. When I became
a Mother it was the best for family life as well, (walking distance to 4 playgrounds… the suburbs cannot beat that)! This
building is a close-knit neighborhood in and of itself. The amazing neighbors mixed with everyone who works and runs
the building being fantastic is just the perfect storm. And of course Marathon Sunday- if you haven’t experienced one
here, you aren’t a New Yorker.
Q: What makes your property so special?
A: Updated kitchen with granite counters and matching granite backsplash, custom cabinetry includes massive pull out
drawers for pots & pans, glass upper cabinets with hard wired LED downlights, coat closet, custom sized built in fridge to
match functionality of kitchen. Large walk-in bedroom closet, large living room closet with shelving. Updated solid wood
doors. Apartment has oversized sound proof windows that let in a great array of natural sun-light. Brand new HVAC units.
Plentiful and organized basement storage area. Brand new gym. Rooftop lounge area. Polite, respectful and courteous
doorman, classy neighbors, proximity to subway combined with a tucked away feel to be away from the rush. Quality
restaurants, bars, grocery, coee shops, libraries & central park all within in walking distance. One of the lowest crime
rates of all neighborhoods in Manhattan.
