WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH 510 BARLOW ROAD?
We moved here from St. Louis, and my husband made an offer on the house without my even having
seen it! I think what sold him was the oversize 3 car garage. He collected sports cars and could fit 4 of
them in the garage. I OK'd his offer, sight unseen, because when I heard 1931, I knew the house would
have wonderful ceiling heights, elegant woodwork and good craftsmanship. And it did.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE RENOVATION PROCESS ...

We extended the kitchen out and put in a wall of windows overlooking the 'big lawn'. I've had hours of pleasure
just sitting at the table looking outside. Foxes, pheasant, turkeys, the ubiquitous deer... I later turned a 6th
bedroom into a master closet. it's huge and there would be room to put in another row of hanging clothes
fixtures. And there's a shoe hall. I wish my clothing lived up to the closet.

ARE YOU HAPPY THAT THE HOUSE HAS A POOL?

Yes! The house came with a pool, and I've put in a new pool liner a few years back. My daughter lived in the
pool when she was young. Along with all her friends. Lots of squealing.

WHY ARE YOU MOVING?

I live here alone in a 5 bedroom house. My children are reluctant for me to give this house up, but I'm the
sensible one in the family. I will miss it, though. It has been great for big entertaining.

WILL YOU MISS THE NEIGHBORS?
Yes. The Winton Park community has periodic parties, and my next door neighbors are the best!
People are warm and friendly, despite the big property sizes.

TELL ME ABOUT THE GROUNDS ...

There are lots of plantings, including the 1000 daffodils on the hill which my mother and I planted a
decade ago. They're just multiplying and knock people over when they all bloom in early spring. All
within an easy walk to downtown. I've been an avid gardener, and I hope the property shows it. I've
tried to make use of the varied terrain, but there's still lots of open space for future projects or just
practicing golf on the lawn.

WHAT MAKES YOUR LOT SO SPECIAL?

It's a unique property, almost 3 acres, encompassing everything from the 'big lawn' to woods, to a
rocky hill and various stone outcroppings. I've enjoyed this land so much. I put in a stone walkway up
into the rocky woods; there's also a stone path to the fountain patio. And the stone walls of the patio. Very
Connecticut.
