AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FILLERS
PROUD HOMEOWNERS OF 2228 NORTH SINCE 2011

WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH 2228 NORTH STREET?
We were moving to Connecticut from California, and were looking for a family home with plenty of
space both inside and out to continue raising our family. We found the house online before making
a trip back to house hunt, and knew immediately it was our home. We loved the idea of the property,
barn, guest house, and all of the indoor space for our family. The love affair continued when we were
able to tour the home in person - we loved the idea of keeping the antique feel of the house while
updating and adding some modern touches throughout. We loved that despite the home's age, the rooms
were large and the ceilings were a great height, giving each room a sunny, welcoming feel.

              PLEASE DESCRIBE THE RENOVATION PROCESS
We knew when we bought the house that there were some cosmetic and practical details that we needed to
update. We wanted to be able to use every inch of the property, including the existing barn, so we decided
to update almost everything all at once. We completely replaced the siding on the barn, along with the
foundation and roof, to be sure that we could house animals inside safely and securely, adding plumbing,
heat, and a "tack room" area. In the house itself, we completely renovated the kitchen, installing a sleek,
modern kitchen from the Italian company Boffi. We refinished all of the floors, changing the color from a
bleached white to a warm dark color, painted and wallpapered, and expanded one of the bedrooms upstairs
into a large guest/au pair suite. We renovated all of the bathrooms, and updated the electrical/plumbing/
heating systems. We also added a hard-wired generator, which has come in handy many times over the
years. We added landscaping and redid the driveway, making the entire home into a beautiful showcase -
keeping with the spirit of Greenfield Hill on the outside, with a modern farmhouse feel on the inside.

DID YOU EVER CONSIDER A POOL?
While there is plenty of space for a pool on our property, we never considered it, as we spend our
summers at the beach in Rhode Island.

                  WHY ARE YOU MOVING?
Our three children are now all away at school out West, and we no longer use the space the way we
once did when they were all living at home. We have absolutely loved living here, every inch inside and
out holds a special place in all of our hearts.

                   WILL YOU MISS THE NEIGHBORS?
Yes - we have friends who live in walking/biking distance which has been so lovely. Everyone looks out
for each other here - catching dogs who have run away, picking kids up from the bus stop, etc. It has
been a great place for our children to grow up.

TELL ME ABOUT THE GROUNDS ...
We love the yard and all that it has to offer - there is plenty of space for gardens, open space for kids/dogs
to play, and three large paddocks for any sort of creatures that you may want to bring home. While we
have neighbors close by, the way the house and yard are situated affords us plenty of privacy. We love that
the front yard offers almost as much space as the back and side - it really gives us an overall sense of space
             and privacy.

WHAT MAKES YOUR LOT SO SPECIAL?
We are so lucky to live in a part of Fairfield that is so beautiful and spacious, while still being close to shops,
restaurants, and the Merritt Parkway. The property itself offers many different uses - from animals in the barn/paddock
area, to many garden spaces, to open space with plenty of room for a pool, riding ring, play structures, or anything else.
