Advantages of Reading
As an intellectual object, a publication is prototypically a makeup of such great length that it
requires a substantial investment of time to write and a still considerable, though not so
comprehensive, investment time to read. In the limited sense, a publication is a self-sufficient
section or part of a longer article, a usage that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long works had to
be written on many scrolls, and each scroll needed to be identified by the book it included.
Therefore, for example, each component of Aristotles Physics is called a book. In the unrestricted
sense, a book is the compositional whole of which such sections, whether known as chapters or
books or parts, are parts.
The intellectual content in a tangible publication does not need to be a composition, nor be called a
book. Novels can consist just of drawings, engravings, or photographs, or such things as
crossword puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages may be left blank or may contain
an abstract group of outlines as service for ongoing entries, e.g., an account book, an appointment
book, an autograph book, a notebook, a journal, or a sketchbook. Some bodily books are created
out of pages thick and sturdy enough to encourage other physical objects, like a record or
photograph album. Books could be distributed in electronic form as e-books along with other
formats.
Although in normal academic parlance that a monograph is known to be a professional academic
work, rather than a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph describes more broadly any non-serial book complete in one volume (publication ) or a
finite number of volumes (a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), compared to
serial publications like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. A passionate reader or collector of
books is a bibliophile or colloquially,"bookworm". Books can also be sold elsewhere. Books may
also be borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010, approximately 130,000,000
different titles had been released. In some wealthier nations, the sale of printed books has
decreased due to the increased usage of e-books.
In the 2000s, as a result of rise in availability of cheap handheld computing devices, the
opportunity to share texts via digital means became an appealing option for media publishers. The
term e-book is a contraction of"digital book"; it pertains to some book-length book in electronic
form. An e-book is generally made accessible through the internet, but also on CD-ROM along with
other forms. E-Books might be read either using a computing device with an LED display like a
conventional computer, a smartphone or a tablet pc; or by way of a mobile e-ink screen device
known as an e-book reader, like the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo eReader, or even
the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers try to mimic the experience of reading a print book by
employing this technology, because the displays on e-book readers are much less reflective.
