ENGINEERS WEEK COUNCIL
The Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council was established in 1999 to plan
the celebration of National Engineers Week in Central Pennsylvania. Its first Engi-
neers Banquet and associated activities were held in February 2000.
Today the Council is comprised of representatives from professional and tech-
nical societies throughout the Central Pennsylvania region. Its mission is to pro-
mote all disciplines of engineering to the general public, with particular emphasis
during National Engineers Week. Each year the Council plans the activities for the
celebration of National Engineers Week in our local area. Because of Covid19 re-
strictions, the only event we have planned this year is the annual Engineers Week
Banquet. The Council also recognizes outstanding individuals by the presentation of
the Engineer of the Year Award, Young Engineer of the Year Award, Technical
Achievement Award, and the John H. McCormick Educational Outreach Award, at
the annual banquet.
In 2020, our Education Outreach Program continued despite COVID-19 challeng-
es. Before the shutdown we held in-person events and after the shutdown we held
virtual events. Our goal is to support the need for engineering education in the
community through pooling the resources of our 14 professional Societies to pro-
vide a greater variety of engineering speaker opportunities for our local school dis-
tricts here in Central Pennsylvania. We are now participating in programs through-
out five local counties and will continue to expand as our resources permit.
