LÁSZLÓ ERDÉSZ
INTRODUCTION TO ATTILA KONNYU’S ARTWORKS
I met rst with Attila Konnyu’s paintings in a beautiful gallery in Palm Beach, Florida. I was greatly impressed by the large and expressive oil paintings and found these to exhibit strong and de nitive color variations. The artwork was composed in a unique way that could be extended in any distance and in any direction.
Lajos Vajda applied this editing method on his last artworks in 1939, then Jackson Pollock and his colleagues also used this method in the mid 1940’s in United States: Abstract Expressionism, Action Painting, and Art Informel. In contrast to other trends, the Abstract Expressionism and Tachisme did not get renewed. Only a few artists are working with these methods. Attila Konnyu is one of these artists.
As we started talking, I realized - he’s concentrating on everything. He is always responding to the situations surrounding him, and he stores his experiences. So: he is a witness.
This fact determines his paintings, and this attitude appear on his artworks. The many colors and shapes are layered together, like a sensitive and watchful man’s impressions from the world. Konnyu is an observer who can see the true relationships and based on this he draws conclusions and records them.
So what are these artworks? They re ect Konnyu’s summary opinion on the current state of the world with the special tools of painting.
What is our world now? We live in a powerfully accelerated, upsetting world today that is moving at an exponential rate. All that is important in the 21st century is changing and the pace of all the changes continues to accelerate. Information, knowledge, economy, and politics more and more expressively change every day.
All these details are re ected in Attila Konnyu’s current artwork.
