Chip, Cont. from page 2
chip cards may include magnetic stripes so that cardholders can still make purchases from merchants who have yet to upgrade to new EMV-compatible pay terminals and registers. In fact, only a few local merchants currently have chip card reader technology, but that will change over time as the cards become more widely available.
Although the new chip cards are more secure, scammers can still gain access to your account if they’re able to obtain confidential information such as your debit and credit card PIN numbers. To that end, Citizens State Bank would like to offer a few basic safety measures to help protect your confidential information from data thieves:
• Sign and activate your new card immediately, then destroy the card which is being replaced.
• Use the new technology whenever possible; don’t just “swipe” out of habit.
• Shield the number pad when entering in your PIN number so that it’s concealed from the view of others.
• As with your previous card, continue to monitor your
account information for any irregularities, and report them promptly.
• Immediately report any lost or stolen cards to the bank, both to prevent them from being used and to request replacements.
Happy Birthday Sonja and Cathy!
