Information and Assistance
Program
A SRC Pillar of Service
Information and Assistance, one the of SRC’s eight pillars of service, is the first point of contact for adults over 60, adults with disabilities, fami- lies and caregivers, bridging the gap between need and services. Our spe- cialists are trained to confidentially answer questions and complete ap- plications for services and benefits that help you remain at home and re- tain your independence. Our Re- source Specialists will meet one-on- one with you to answer questions re- garding many aging issues. See be- low for some of the programs we can help you with.
Medicare Savings Programs
Trained SRC Resource Specialists can explain how to get help from the State of Illinois to pay your Medicare premiums. In some cases, Medicare Savings Programs may also pay Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Medicare Part B (medical insur- ance) deductibles, co-insurance and co-payments, if you meet certain in-
come and asset based criteria.
Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)
SHIP is a free State of Illinois program administered by your Senior Resource Center. Trained health insurance counselors are here to help you as a Medicare beneficiary and your caregivers with their questions. SHIP is not affil- iated with any insurance company. Our counselors do not sell or solicit any type of insurance. Our counselors can provide you with accurate and objective counseling, assistance and advocacy regarding Medicare-related is- sues and products. This service ensures that you have the information needed to make an informed decision about your healthcare insurance needs.
SHIP Counseling is most often provided in a one-on- one confidential session but we also offer monthly edu- cational Medicare classes. These classes explain the ba- sics of Medicare, Medicare Part A & Part B, Medicare Ad- vantage plans, Medicare Supplements, and Medicare Part D. Our classes offer a great way to get the information you need to know when turning 65 or as refresher. We know Medicare can be complicated and our goal is to help you navigate through the process so you can make an informed decision.
Benefit Access Program (BAA)
Formally known as Circuit Breaker, the Illinois Depart- ment on Aging has begun the Benefit Access Program. Money-saving benefits are now available which includes a discount of $75.00 off your license plate sticker and a Seniors or Persons with Disabilities Ride Free Transit Card.
