Parkview to Celebrate 90th Birthday
The year was 1926 and Calvin Coolidge was President. Famous people born that year included Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth II, and Jerry Lewis. The U.S. population was approximately 117 million. It was the “Jazz Era” and television was in its infancy.
Fast forward 90 years and most people have television on their cell phone and the U.S. population is over 320 million! While a great deal has changed in the past 90 years; some things remain the same. Parkview has been located at the corner of Park Boulevard and Pearl City Road all this time providing quality care to senior citizens. While Parkview has grown and expanded over the years our mission has remained the same. Parkview’s mis- sion is to provide quality retirement living, with long term care that allows for the highest level of independence on a cost effi- cient basis for the Freeport community.
Parkview was founded in 1914 as a not-for-profit when local businessmen Joseph Emmert and C. H. Little each generously pledged $200,000 and challenged the community to raise the remaining needed funds to construct and maintain the facility. With the help of the Rotarians and the community the goal was realized and Parkview formally opened on July 24, 1926 as a home for the aged.
Parkview’s continued growth has largely been due to the gen- erosity of individuals and business people in the community such as Helen Schulte and Bert & Jane Snow. Parkview has expanded from a 25 room home for the aged to a full continu- um of care retirement community offering 47 independent liv- ing condos, 20 enhanced independent living apartments, 25
assisted living apartments and a 30 bed 24-hour health center. Parkview is home to an average of 120 residents and employs over 100 people. Parkview continues to be private pay but now offers several payment options including month to month rent and lifetime care plans.
Parkview continues to meet the changing needs of the com- munity with our 44,000 square foot addition that is presently under construction. We are pleased to be adding 15 private memory care rooms including a spa and plenty of room for activities along with a wander garden. The top level will add 15 private skilled care beds and the middle level will be finished at a later date as needed.
Parkview is proud that many of the second generation of resi- dents are choosing to reside here. We also have third genera- tion family members working at Parkview. This attests to the fact that Parkview is a great place to live and work! It is the car- ing people and the home like environment that have made Parkview successful all these years.
We are always excited to celebrate birthdays at Parkview and we are especially excited to celebrate Parkview’s 90th birthday! Parkview looks forward to providing quality care to seniors in the surrounding area for many more years to come! Stop in for a visit and a tour!

You might be a little surprised when you see a portion of your earnings go to a tax called “FICA” for the Federal Insurance Contributions Act. This deduction goes to Social Security and is your way of helping us secure your today and tomorrow. It’s our job to keep the safety net of Social Security strong through your incremental contributions.
Understanding how important your contribution is takes some of the sting away because your taxes are helping millions of

Americans. By law, employers must withhold Social Security taxes from workers’ paychecks. While referred to as “Social Security taxes” on an employee’s pay statement, sometimes the deduction is labeled as “FICA.” This stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act, a reference to the original Social Security Act. Sometimes, you will see “OASDI,” which stands for Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance, the official name for the Social Security Insurance program.
The taxes you pay now mean a lifetime of protection — for retirement in old age or in the event of disability. And when you
