               Abstract:

Catfish from the family Pangasiidae is popular and important in inland fisheries of the Southeast Asia
region. Pangasius nasutus is one of the popular freshwater fish species of Pangasiidae in Pahang River,
brought up by its economic value. However, the population sustainability of this species is considered
threatened due to the exploitation rate, threat from invasive alien species and habitat modification. The
knowledge of the population parameters of this species currently is still lacking. Hence this study aims
to enrich the information database of this species. The present study aimed to describe the length-
frequency distribution and length-weight relationship of P. nasutus in Pahang River. A total of 138
samples were collected monthly from 10 stations along the Pahang River from May 2021 to July 2021
using casting nets (mesh size 2.0 and 3.0 inches), gillnets (mesh size 5.0 and 9.0 inches), and fishhooks.
The size of samples ranged from 28.7 cm to 63.7 cm fork length (FL) (mean ± SD: 44.37 ± 6.58 cm)
and body weight between 0.29 kg – 3.26 kg (1.15 ± 0.55 kg). This study found that the pooled sexes of
               P. nasutus revealed negative allometric growth with the growth coefficient (b) values was 2.915 of
fishes become slenderer and longer. The present study provides new references for P. nasutus in Pahang
River, Malaysia, for future studies on population parameters and conservation strategies to maintain a
               healthy and sustainable population.
