SELECTING CASTERS & WHEELS

Floor and Surface Conditions. The wheel you select
should be large enough to pass over cracks in the floor
or surface, tracks, moldings and other obstructions. For
maximum floor protection on linoleum, tile, etc., P&H
recommends the use of polyurethane or rubber wheels.

Unusual Conditions. Each wheel material has certain
characteristics which will give the best results where
unusual conditions exist. These environmental or
operating challenges may include locations where acids,
oils, chemicals and other substances harmful to rubber
are present, and another wheel material such as polyurethane, polyolefin, phenolic or steel
would be better suited. Operating conditions are an important element in the selection of the
correct casters and wheels.

Rolling Ease/Rollability. The larger the wheel diameter, the easier it rolls. Several factors
should be considered when selecting wheels to enhance the ease of moving the load.

 Wheel diameter
 Hardness of wheel material (durometer)
 Type of bearing

Type of Bearing. Roller bearings carry heavier loads. Ball bearings roll easier but do not have
the same weight capacity as roller bearings. When possible, use the largest ball bearing wheel
for best results.
