It has been so enjoyable and gratifying to watch the TMS ac-
tors embrace this style and develop the courage to take crea-
tive risks, make BIG choices, and bring this show to life. Final-

ly, something else about Birdie that makes it so appealing right
now is that, despite the satire, Bye, Bye Birdie is filled with op-
timism and innocence; this is displayed by things such as the
teenagers' enthusiasm, the joys of an appearance on the Ed
Sullivan show, and the happy ending of Albert leaving the big
city to teach English in Iowa. Yes, Iowa. It seems we could all

use a little optimism and innocence these days... and a trip
back to the 50s, where everyone meets on the street and rota-
ry telephones can get busy signals might not be so bad for a
while. So please sit back and get ready to join the incredible,

talented, joyful TMS actors in Sweet Apple, Ohio, circa 1957.
When it is over, we think you'll be chanting along with us:
     "Don't Take Birdie!"

     I will miss you!
