The Carers Association is Ireland's national charity for Family Carers.
Our mission is:
• to provide Family Carers with emotional and practical supports;
• to promote the interests of family carers and those receiving care in the home
through effective partnership, lobbying and advocacy and
• to gain recognition and social justice for carers’ invaluable contribution to Irish
society.
We reach Family Carers through our FREEFONE National Care Line 1800 24 07 24
and centres/hubs across the country – see our website www.carersireland.com for details
of our locations.
Our services to family carers include:
• In-home respite care where our highly trained workers take on the caring duties of
the family carer for a number of hours to give the carer a much needed break
• Innovative tele-care solutions for family carers
• Training for family carers and those seeking to work in the caring sector including
patient moving and handling, palliative care, First Aid, Care of the elderly including
dementia specific training etc.
• Family mediation service for family carers and their extended families
• Referral/access to legal advice for family carers
• Referral/access to free counselling service
• Information and advice on rights and entitlements
• Advocacy support
We are HSE approved home care package providers and have been providing publicly
funded quality in-home respite care to families in Ireland for over 20 years. We also
provide private care for families upon request.
In 2013 The Carers Association received the ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for our
documented Quality Management System. This Quality Management System is proof that
as an Association we are committed to continually improving the standard of our Respite
Service, in accordance with the international recognised requirements contained within the
ISO 9001:2008 standard.
