Genealogy
Knowing where we come from means a lot to any of us. When it comes to tracing
one's Irish roots there are a great many resources and supports available. A
census of Ireland's population was taken every 10 years from 1821 until 1911. An
original manuscript s from every household in Ireland survive for the years 1901
and 1911. 1901 and 1911 Census returns are fully searchable on-line today , free
of charge on their website: www.census.nationalarchives.ie.
Another original source that is available online is the Religious Census of 1766.
This survives in original or transcript form under the headings of parish, county
and diocese : www.nationalarchives.ie/ReligiousCensus.
There are two useful publications worth investigating if this area is of interest
to you:
