The first civilian casualties of World War II were

Arock after which this town is named stands like a
marker at the entrance to the bay and is strikingly
round in shape. A haven for the Arts in Ireland, the
town of Roundstone is associated with some of the
most important figures in Irish Art who have painted
here. Paul Henry, Jack B. Yeats, Gerard Dillon and Nano
Reid to name but a few. The Roundstone Arts Week is
celebrated annually and a local Summerfest, is held in
July. Traditional Irish Nights are held weekly throughout
July and August offering music, song and dance from the
Connemara area.
