Letterkenny. The historic home of the O’ Doherty clan,
you can find the three-storey remains of a 14th century
Norman castle known as O’ Doherty’s keep. In 1601
the O’Doherty’s Keep was described as being a small,
two-story castle, home of Conor McGarret O’Doherty.
In 1602 the third level was added and upgraded by Hugh
Boy O’Doherty as an intended base for planned Spanish
military aid expected to land at Inch. Another historical
note, the Irish revolutionary leader Theobald Wolfe Tone
was held here at Buncrana Castle when he was captured
after the British/French naval battle off the coast of
Donegal. Buncrana was the centre of the Textile industry
in Donegal from the 19th century right up to recent
days. The “Inishowen 100” is one of Ireland’s most scenic
drives. Its a 100-mile (160km) circular route around the
Inishowen Peninsula in North East Donegal.
Ballyliffin - Baile Lifin
Set against rolling hills at the northwestern tip of
