Wayside Park, at 900 east Fifth St., is a large open park next to the community pool with a play-
ground, two pavilions, the Lewis House, a caboose, and
picnic tables.
Lewis Memorial Cabin
Lewis Memorial Cabin was given to Communi-
ty Betterment, Mountain View, Park Board, De-
cember of 1976 by Lester E. Lewis, in memory
of his father and mother, Charles J. Lewis and
Marian E. Lewis. The Lewis family came to
Mountain View in January 1941 from Chicago,
Illinois.
The cabin, a unique treasure in design, was built
in the late 1920’s by Allie Sheets for the owner,
Bill Arthur. It was the main building of a group
of tourist cabins and was, for a time, used as the
Honeymoon Cottage. In March of 1977, it was
moved to its permanent home in Wayside Park.
What Park, (two pictures below,) on Pine St., The fireplace and chimney were rebuilt after it
has a walking trail, picnic tables, seasonal garden and was placed where it is now. For a time, it was
historic jail house. staffed by volunteers and open for people to
come see.
