Teacher Instructions
Teacher: Discuss the concepts of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness,
relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Explain how developing those personal
attributes and skills will help students succeed personally and academically.
Teacher: After each discussion (one per day) instruct the students to complete the related
lesson.
Vocabulary:
1. Self-awareness- The ability to accurately recognize one’s own emotions, thoughts, and
values and how they influence behavior. The ability to accurately assess one’s strengths and
limits with a grounded sense of confidence, optimism, and a growth mindset.
2. Self-management- The ability to successfully regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and
behaviors in dierent situations to eectively manage stress, control negative impulses, and
motivate yourself. The ability to set and work toward achieving personal and academic goals.
3. Social awareness- The ability to understand and empathize with others, including those
from other backgrounds and cultures. The ability to understand social and ethical norms for
behavior and to recognize family, school, and community resources and supports.
4. Relationship skills- The ability to make and keep healthy and rewarding relationships with
diverse individuals and groups. The ability to communicate clearly, listen well, cooperate with
others, resist inappropriate peer pressure, negotiate conflict constructively, and seek and oer
help when needed.
5. Responsible decision making- The ability to make good choices about personal behavior
and social interactions based on ethical standards, safety concerns, and social norms.
Evaluating the results of my actions and considering the wellbeing of myself and others.
