Message to the Student
You have learned social emotional skills from your family and friends. Some of the
behaviors you have learned may be inappropriate, which might have led you to participate in
conflicts with unwanted results. That means you have less time in school to learn the skills that
are necessary to be a successful student.
In the Social Emotional Talent Program, you will learn how to appropriately interact with
adults and your peers. More specifically, you will develop self-awareness, self-management,
social awareness, relationship, and responsible decision-making skills.
Now it is time for you to unlearn the inappropriate behaviors and develop your social
emotional talent. As you complete the lessons, it is best to be honest with yourself because
that will help you determine your progress. Listen attentively to your peers, so you can also
learn from their experiences. Be patient with yourself by focusing on improving your own
social emotional skills one lesson at a time. Do not focus on what you may have done wrong
in the past, and do not focus on what you might do wrong in the future . Enable yourself to
have a growth mindset.
