Concrete Degradation Mechanisms: Freeze Thaw Freeze-Thaw
Caused by the freezing of water and subsequent expansion in the paste, aggregate or both while the concrete is wet. The effect of successive freeze- thaw cycles and disruption of paste and aggregate can eventually cause expansion and cracking, scaling, and crumbling of the concrete.
