Online Cable PD as well as spot measurement techniques
will be continued in future also for suspected 33kV
Cable sections as field trials to pre-locate the PD source
points inside the cable insulation. In a nutshell, these
two methodologies (spot measurement & online cable
PD measurement) are very effective to determine cable
insulation health. Online partial discharge testing is ideal
for in-service screening of large populations of cables.
Cables identified as suspected ones in the online tests
can be scrutinised further to locate the PD source. If the
pre-location matches with the actual fault point, then our
pilot project will be successful and we can reduce the no.
of failures avoiding, unplanned outages to a great extent.
