RELIGION
St Edmund’s is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. In following this tradition we focus on the gospels that Edmund so loved for our guidance and inspiration.

In RE classes we use the stories from the Old and New Testaments to
develop our students, attitudes and values. We focus on the interactions
between people and how we can assist others through our actions. Our studies work their way through the Church calendar and at each stage level we try to deepen the understanding within our students of the important concepts associated with the Bible stories.
We are lucky to have two such valuable role models as Saint Mary MacKillop and Blessed Edmund Rice to use in our school as a focus when we discuss a variety of topics. They guide us in ways to treat others, in ways of prayer and in ways to give to those more in need than ourselves. Both saw needs in their community and took action. This is a goal for all our students both in our school community and in the community at large.
We begin every school day with a whole school Morning Prayer that focuses on different issues and concepts related to the Church and school year. They are led by our senior students and often involve musical and visual components.
This year we again celebrated the Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice with a special activity day and a
whole school Mass. Fr David Ranson visited us several times during the year to celebrate Mass
with the school and he really cherishes our involvement in the Parish Masses on Fridays during
the school terms. Classes are rostered to attend Mass on Fridays and Father David encourages
the students’ involvement in the Mass as readers, servers and in the procession of the gifts. The response from the other members of the Parish community has been so very positive to this regular interaction.
The Senior School retreat at Mulgoa was another success this year. The year 11 and 12 students spent three days on the theme “Where do I find God?” and enjoyed the atmosphere and companionship while on retreat.
