Carla Giglio (née Galloni) has devoted over 30 years to uplifting elderly Italian-Australians through her work at the Coordinating Italian Committee (CIC). Born in Genoa and migrating to Australia at age 10, Carla channels her lived experience into programs that honour Italian culture and reduce social isolation. At 80, Carla still leads with love and humility. Her legacy is one of service—touching hearts, preserving heritage, and inspiring future generations.
Elena Spinelli created her first five knitwear samples in 1959, sparking a national fashion brand that supplied Monte Carlo, Myer, and David Jones. A pioneering leader, she provided employment to many migrants, whom she lovingly called “Le Mie Belle Ragazze.” Alongside her sister Pierina, she built a multi- million-dollar business, leaving a lasting legacy in South Australia’s Italian community. Even at 92, Elena’s infectious energy, warmth, and dedication to family, staff, and community continue to inspire and unite all who know her.
Immacolata Caporaso has dedicated over 53 years to the retail food industry, passionately preserving and promoting Italian traditions and the Italian way of life.. A true pioneer, Immacolata’s leadership and love for community have brought joy to generations of customers. Immacolata’s impact extends far beyond business, she has become a role model, embodying the spirit, warmth, and resilience of the Italian-Australian community.
Lucia Di Sante has dedicated over 40 years to the Casa D'Abruzzo Molise Club, tirelessly volunteering as Kitchen and Functions Manager, Committee Member, and now Club President. Her passion for preserving Italian traditions shines through decades of cooking, event planning, and community building. She leads with strength and heart, ensuring the club remains vibrant and family-friendly.
Patrizia Kadis is a fearless advocate for elderly Italian-Australians and CALD communities, driving systemic change in culturally appropriate aged care. She pioneered the Italian Living with Memory Loss and Italian Carers Dementia Education Programs, now models shared nationally. Through initiatives like the Community Partners Project, she secured government funding for CALD carer support across multiple communities. Recognised as an expert by the Department of Health and Ageing, Patrizia’s research, advocacy, and policy work have transformed multicultural dementia care across Australia.
