4. A MESSAGE FROM MR ERNESTO PIANELLI
CONSUL OF ITALY IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
As Consul of Italy in South Australia, I really appreciate the project ‘PROGETTO DONNA - Empowering Italian Women in SA’, led by Com.It.Es. SA and supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
I have enjoyed every single paragraph of the work, and I am very grateful to all the contributors for the study on the significant role Italian women have played in the South Australian-Italian community and the problem of their underrepresentation in leadership roles within the community.
Through the presentation of quantifiable data that this project presents to readers, ‘Progetto Donna’ can be considered a really interesting work for the evaluation of where we stand today on the state of women’s representation in leading positions within the Italo-Australian community in SA.
I am confident that, in addressing this issue, the project can provide a path for the next generation of Italian girls to reach their full potential. At the same time, I sincerely hope that the ‘Progetto Donna’ Awards, through which Com.It.Es. SA intends to celebrate the achievements and exceptional contributions of women in the community, can act as a spur, in particular to young people who do not have adequate role models to inspire them.
