PRESIDENT’S REPORT
2017/18, our 87th , was another successful season despite a challenging start. There were early website registration issues that resulted in a protracted registration process. In Seniors, the Association’s decision to have 6 Teams in the top 4 Grades including 2 Teams in A2 Grade, the lack of experience in Kanga Coaching ranks combined to make the start of this season tougher than most.
Despite these difficulties the season got underway and ran smoothly. There were many achievements:
• Our skills Academy was launched and has been a great success with 48 Registrations in the initial season and feedback being outstanding.
• The new website overcame early teething problems and is now an important platform for our Club communication
• In2Cricket (Kanga) registered 112 children with approx. 70% of our players being new to the Club
• Junior Boys, under our new Juniors Director, Rob Hanich, registered 34 Teams and won the following Competitions:
- U11 Orange
- U12 Red who defeated our Purple Team
- U16 Gold
• Junior Girls had 3 Teams in the Sixers Competition
• Seniors had a tough year with six teams promoted by the Association 1 to 2 grades higher than we had intended, including 6 teams in the top 4 Grades with 2 in the A2 Grade. Despite this we had successes with 4 teams making the semi finals and congratulations to our Grand Finalists:
- D2 Grade (Premiers)
- B2 Grade (Runners-up).
Academy
The launching of our Academy under the direction of Daniel Anderson has been a tremendous success. Survey results from the Academy participants showed that an impressive 96% of participants said their cricket skills had improved with 97% rating our Coaches as being Excellent or Very Good. The Academy will continue to be an important part of part of our Club and provide another point of differentiation.
Coaching
Another pleasing outcome of this season is that we have successfully developed an internal coaching capability over the last 3 years that this season saw us introduce cricket to approximately 1,500 children through our local Schools. Our Coaches are among the best in the District.
In addition to running the Academy we also ran free clinics for all Junior Boys and Girls. Further, our Coaches are now involved with supporting our Kanga children on Saturday mornings through coaching the coaches. We now have a Team of Coaches who have come through our Junior ranks and are making a significant contribution.
Association Strategy
The Association is developing a strategy for the next 3 – 5 years. This is an exciting time and will be the first time that the Association will have a formal strategy. Our Club is playing a lead role in driving this initiative.
