Alternative Approach to Supply of Pre-Cut Labels
An alternative approach for Centres to supply pre-cut labels is to produce these on-demand in Centre using a dedicated label cutter (kiss cutter). The sale and availability of equipment for this market has expanded rapidly over the past few years. The advantage of producing on- demand labels include:
• Any shape or size that fits on an SRA3 sheet can be printed and cut, halving the print cost when compared to an A4 pre-cut sheet.
• Reduced stock holdings as only flat sheet stock is required. Which can be a stocked item in the Centre.
• Faster response time as labels are printed and then cut on demand.
• Lower costs to produce when compared to pre-cut labels (see break even analysis)
• Reduced waste - produce only the quantity needed.
• Imposition is not as critical as the equipment will register each sheet as it processes.
The artwork however does require a keyline cut profile to be produced in Illustrator.
• Simpler print process – no need to align sheets to existing profile as each sheet is
registered and cut to suit.
Equipment Evaluation
Graphtec CE6000 Cutter + F-Mark Feeder
The recommended equipment to produce on demand pre-cut labels for the Snap network is the Graphtec CE7000 with the F-Mark 2 feeder. The Graphtec CE6000 coupled with the F- Mark feeder has been superseded and replaced with the F-Mark 2 feeding unit together with the CE7000. Note that CE7000 does not work with the old F-Mark cutter.
Differences between the CE6000 and CE7000: The CE7000 offers
• More advanced Registration Mark Sensing
• Continuous Operation using the Datalink Barcode System
• Network Connection (can connect to your network to send jobs direct)
• USB Offline Operation (can also run offline)
• 25% Faster than CE6000
