John the Baptist and Me
The Story of John the Baptist
John’s story began a few months before _ _ _ _ _ was born. His father Zechariah was a
_ _ _ _ _ _ who served in the temple in Jerusalem. Zechariah was married to Elizabeth and they were very old and had no children. One day an angel called _ _ _ _ _ _ _came to Zechariah and said that they would have a baby who would be great in the sight of God, and that they should call him _ _ _ _. Soon afterwards Elizabeth became pregnant. She was very happy and gave thanks to God, because God can make all things _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Elizabeth and Zechariah knew that God had a very special work for their son, John.
One day when _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _was six months pregnant, her cousin Mary came to visit her. The _ _ _ _ _ Gabriel had also visited Mary to tell her that God was happy with her and that she was to have a son named _ _ _ _ _ who was to be the Saviour of the world. So Mary had the baby Jesus within her. When Mary hugged her cousin Elizabeth, the baby John _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ even before he was born.
When he was about 30 years of age he began _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and telling all the people that they had to be ready to meet the Son of God. Great crowds came to hear John. He told them to _ _ _ _ _ _ _by being sorry for all the bad things they had done. When they said they were sorry to God, John baptised them in the River Jordan, as a sign of
God’s _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
One day Jesus came to the River _ _ _ _ _ _and asked John to baptise him. John said that he was not worthy to do this and that Jesus did not need this, but Jesus really wanted John to
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ him, so John did what Jesus asked him to do. When Jesus went down into the water God gave everybody a sign that this was the Son of _ _ _ that the people had been waiting for. Jesus loved John and when some cruel people killed _ _ _ _, Jesus was very sad. Jesus said that his cousin was a burning and shining _ _ _ _ _ who showed everyone that Jesus was the Son of God who came to save all people, and that Jesus was with them.
