The Visit by the Magi
When Jesus was born in the village of Bethlehem in Judea, Herod was King. During this time some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem and said, “Where is the child born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star and have come to worship him.”.
Herod heard about this and was worried, so he called his chief priests and teachers and he asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?” They told him, “he will be born in Bethlehem as the prophets wrote.” Herod secretly asked the visit this new king. (Herod intended to kill the baby because he wanted to be the only king.)
When the wise men saw the baby with Mary his mother, they
knelt down and worshipped him. They gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Later they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, so they went home by another road.
