San Maternity:
Giving Our Tiniest Hearts the Best Start In Life!
Before embarking on her IVF journey, Mel Monteiro had endured years of severe endometriosis. When it came time to choose where to give birth, Mel opted for the San Maternity as their team exuded warmth, inclusivity, and unwavering support for all types of families. It was the perfect fit for her pregnancy journey.
Little did Mel know; her pregnancy would take a remarkable turn. At 27 weeks, she found herself at the San experiencing stomach pains, unaware she was in labour. Upon evaluation, she was advised to deliver
at Royal North Shore Hospital due to her baby’s need for care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Through this daunting experience, San midwives Libby, Ashley, and Denise provided Mel with their calming presence, compassionate care, and extensive expertise.
In a heartwarming display of support, Dr John Keogh and midwife Libby accompanied Mel in the ambulance to Royal North Shore, ensuring she felt supported every step of the way. The following day, while in recovery, Mel received a thoughtful call from Libby and
Dr Keogh, checking in on her and her newborn daughter, Mariah.
After enduring a challenging five weeks in the NICU, Mariah finally returned to the San. “The Special Care Nursery team were incredible! I always felt at ease leaving Mariah, knowing she was in such good hands. Often, I’d visit late at night and see the nurses having a snuggle! It was very cute!” shares Mel.
Contributions to San Foundation have enabled the hospital to equip its maternity facilities with state-of- the-art resources, ensuring every mother, baby, and family receives the best possible care. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our community’s tiniest members.
