The other hospital that I visited was The Alfred Hospital. The Alfred has one of Australia’s busiest emergency and trauma centres, the state’s largest Intensive Care Unit and is home to multiple state-wide services. Thank you to Mark Mennen, Director of Perfusion and Perfusionist Adriano Luongo, who accommodated my visit and showed me their Quantum set-up during one of their cases.

I also visited the facility of LivaNova who provides our perfusion tubing packs for open-heart surgeries. LivaNova is a global medical technology company built on decades of experience and a relentless commitment to patients. Their focus is to transform lives with products and therapies for the head and heart.
I had a great chance to see the newly launched Essenz Perfusion System with Jodie Mae, Commercial Operations Manager and Melissa Barnes, PTS Development Manager of LivaNova.
I had a great opportunity to tour the sterile facility of LivaNova. Here they assemble the tubing packs for Westmead Hospital and other hospital units around the country. Tammy Dowell, Production Supervisor and Jethro Cabanayan, Team Leader of the tubing pack production team were very kind to accommodate me on the process of coming up with our sterile tubing packs. Kim Daly, Sterilisation and Facilities Manager explained the process involved in sterilisation and packing of the tubing packs to prepare them for freight and delivery to different hospital units.
This visit to LivaNova won’t be possible without the kindness of Steven Krithinakis, National Sales Manager of Cardiovascular ANZ and Cindy Mamakos who organised my transport from my accommodation to the facility and to the airport for my flight back to Sydney.
