Spectrum Medical was also one of the companies I visited. They offer a flexible range of Quantum Perfusion Modules – a unique combination of world leading Perfusion Technologies, Integrated Patient Safety Systems and Advanced Software Modules designed to support a wide range of clinical therapies that use Extracorporeal Circulation for patient life- support within the Operating Room.
I also had an opportunity to see their heater-cooler called Mr. Frosty, a powerful and revolutionary world’s first Heater-Cooler technology with a multi-level safety strategy that eliminates Mycobacterium Chimaera from the Operating Room. Within the Operating Room the Mr. Frosty stored energy technology ensures that noise levels are minimal with zero disruption to the surgical area laminar flow system. To further improve the safety environment, the Mr. Frosty technology requires no hazardous cleaning procedures.
I would like to thank Sohail Afkari, VP of Global Customer Support of Spectrum Medical Ltd. Sohail organised my visit to the two hospitals – The Alfred and RCH Melbourne, who gave me a great tutorial on the Quantum Heart-Lung machine during my visit.
Overall, my visit to Melbourne was worthwhile – I saw different set-ups of an adult and a paediatric unit using a different heart-lung machine, the Quantum Perfusion system. I also have met Perfusionists in person whom I just heard by name. My visit was beneficial and was a learning experience. Now that we can travel again, I would encourage my fellow perfusionists to visit other units too and share their experience.
