The ANZCPR has been monitoring a useful blood management performance indicator, ‘HB<7’. This measures the compliance to sites maintaining a hemoglobin on bypass above 7 g/dL. Compliance to this quality indicator across the collaborative is now over 90% (Fig 13), note the single site improvement (Fig 14) and the narrow spread across all participating sites in 2021 (Fig 15).

Another informative performance indicator which reflects the effectiveness of blood management strategies is the rate of red blood cell transfusion. In 2021, around 30% of cases were transfused with RBC which
is down from over 50% in 2007 (Fig 16). Progress towards reducing red cell transfusion is seen at this single site (Fig 17). Figure 18 shows the narrow range of transfusion rates between participating ANZCPR sites in 2021.
