Early Christian Communities
How the First Christians followed Jesus

Jews who practised the Jewish rituals and attended the synagogue (place of worship). But they also met in their homes for the breaking of the bread which was a special way of remembering Jesus.
Gradually, Christianity spread beyond Jerusalem and reached all the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. As it grew it began to develop a character of its own. Soon Christianity became a religion
of its own. The Greek term ‘ekklesia’ (local Church) was used to describe those new Christian communities. Other people noticed that these early Christians were very different. For example had a special job.
1. Name the things from the passage that made the Christians different.
2. What would make Christians today be noticed as different? Choose from the list of differences in the passage and those things which were mentioned during the brainstorm.”
Christianity Spreads Across the World
The teachings of Jesus became so popular that Churches were starting in towns all around Jerusalem within a few years. Christianity continued to spread across the world for many years. In fact it is still spreading today. Name all the towns on the map of the Mediterranean Sea on the next page. Each of the these towns had a church. Search the book called Acts and the headings will help.
For example Acts 9:26 Saul in Jerusalem.
